Anita Lemon is a Pilates instructor, Yoga teacher and movement specialist with 40 years of teaching experience in dance and related movement fields. She is certified in The Method Pilates through The PhysicalMind® Institute/NYC, however, her introduction to the work began when the Pilates Mat exercises were still called “Contrology” and Anita, as part of her scholarship duties, served as demonstrator for Tatiana Semenova at the Houston Foundation for Ballet Academy. Anita is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher(E-RYT-500) through The Yoga Alliance, qualified to mentor and train other Yoga instructors. She is certified to teach by both The Yoga Institute of Houston and the Shambhava School of Yoga/Shoshoni Center. Exploring yogic work to cope with mood, relieve tension and create balance has led to certification as a LifeForce Practitioner through the LifeForce Yoga® Healing Institute. As a dancer Anita’s performing, teaching and choreographic career has included Chrysalis Repertory Dance Company, The Houston Ballet Foundation, guest artist with Space/Dance/Theatre, as well as a solo career, performing in the United States and Europe. She received her M.A. in Dance from Goddard College and her M.F.A. in Modern Dance at the University of Utah. A frequent artist at university dance departments throughout the U.S, she has worked with athletes, dancers, singers, actors, children, teenagers, adults, expectant mothers, and university students. Anita also holds a B.S. degree from Texas Woman’s University and the M.P.H. from the University of Texas, along with being a Fulbright Scholar to India during 1994-95. Anita has been greatly influenced by her studies in the Expressive Movement Program (Laban) at Le Centre d’Etudes du Mouvement at the Université du Québec à Montréal, and those in Anatomy, Physiology and Kinesiology at both Baylor College of Medicine and The University of Utah. Her aim is integrating these approaches in her Pilates and Yoga work in order to assist clients to acquire movement skills, achieve fitness goals, find balance, handle stress, and encourage self awareness.
