ADVANCED GROUP EQUIPMENT CLASSES

Mondays

6:30am

Intermediate/Advanced – for students who already have an extensive working knowledge of Pilates, and are ready to learn new exercises and further challenge their abilities. Students are expected to know the majority of the exercises and demonstrate body awareness capabilities appropriate for self-cueing and injury prevention. You must be eager to work at a more demanding pace, and should be prepared to regularly perform exercises demanding full weight support in plank positions requiring wrist strength/stability and abdominal/low back control (e.g. long stretch, leg pulls, control balance, side planks), knee strength/stability (able to execute the full range of kneeling exercises), full spinal range without pain (e.g. tower), and full body control in precarious positions (e.g. one-legged pike-ups, various splits without gondola pole, tendon stretch, snake). Note: In any class with "Advanced" in the title, you will sometimes be asked to do exercises/repetitions/variations demanding sheer "brute strength" and will be expected to make appropriate decisions as to your capabilities to support your own body weight in various positions, and without anyone "spotting" you as you get in and out of starting positions, and even in regard to what spring settings are appropriate for you. Students must be highly self-motivated.
